Conclusion

The main conclusion that we derive from looking at these figures is that many American Indian children and their families are facing extremely stressful, and worsening, economic conditions. Low family incomes, joblessness, and unequal treatment are likely to have an effect on education, family life, juvenile justice and many other areas of children's lives.

Statistics like these often paint a bleak picture, but they can never provide a complete picture of a community. They do not portray, for example, the many efforts to create jobs and increase economic opportunity, and they do not portray the cultural and family strengths within the community.
